Adequate insurance coverage for an athlete is the
responsibility of the parent or guardian. Parents/Guardians
are required to have insurance to cover their child in
sports or purchase the First Service Insurance plan available
through the high school. In addition, all secondary school
students who participate in VHSL activities must complete
and return to the coach Part I through IV of the VHSL
Athletic Participation/Parental/Guardian/ Consent/Physical
Exam Form to verify coverage. The form will be
filed in the office of the Director of Athletics.
It must be clearly understood
that no accident insurance plan is comprehensive. It
is certainly possible that a child could be seriously injured, resulting
in sizeable medical costs for which the parents/guardians
are responsible. Serious injury could include, but
is not restricted to, loss of bodily function, loss of
organs or limbs, paralysis, and even death.
High School Accident Insurance Plan
The plan offered through First Service Insurance is
available through the high school. Coverage is
outlined in a brochure provided to any parent or student
interested in purchasing the plan. Under the above
plan, football is the only sport not covered. However,
the high school does purchase a separate policy for those
athletes participating in football. The policy
is secondary in nature.
The contact office for insurance claims will be First
Service Insurance in all cases, with the exception
of football insurance. The contact person in
football situations will be the
Activities Director. |
